The Student Health Centers provide health care services on-site at several schools in Portland to help students stay healthy and miss fewer classes. Services include diagnosis and treatment of minor illness, management of chronic conditions, sports physicals, immunizations, preventive oral health services and mental health counseling.

Our centers are a partnership between the Portland Public Health Division, Portland Public Schools and Maine Medical Center to provide accessible health care to Portland's children.

Eligibility
We are happy to see any student with a completed enrollment form that has been signed by a parent. Students who are at least 18 years old, emancipated minors, married, or who live independently may sign permission for themselves. We charge a nominal fee at the beginning of the school year or bill Medicaid when appropriate. No one will be denied care if unable to pay.

Services
You can receive a full range of services at the Student Health Centers including but not limited to primary care, preventative dental care and mental health services. The center is not intended to replace the doctor or health care providers, but will work with them to better coordinate the student's health care. For example, information is sent back to the primary care provider each time a student is seen for a medically related visit. You must first be seen by the school nurse and will be referred to the Student Health Center for an appointment as needed.

Business Hours
The Student Health Centers are open several days a week and have appointments available both during and after school. Walk-in services are provided as available. See the school nurse to set up a time that is right for you.

Staff
The Student Health Center staff consists of pediatricians, nurse practitioners, clinic assistants,  dental hygienists, social workers and a child psychiatrist. The school nurses and social workers are not members of the Student Health Centers but work closely with the staff to coordinate appointments and referrals.

Confidentiality
By law, all medical information kept in a student's health record is confidential and will remain in a locked file at the clinic site. No records or information will be released from Student Health Center without written consent from the student or parent.
